Berthe Morisot 's house

Interpretation Centre

Berthe Morisot lived in Bougival, as her daughter Julie tells us in her diary "the happiest moments of her life".
The artist rented this house every summer from 1881 to 1884.

She had settled, with her husband Eugène Manet and her daughter Julie, at 4 rue de la Princesse (today 1 avenue de la Drionne) in this house, which was rented out every summer between 1881 and 1884. In 1882, she stayed there for most of the year. The house had a magnificent flower garden. She painted there: the Fable (1883), Eugène Manet and his daughter in the garden (1883), in the Veranda (1884), Garden in Bougival (1884), Hollyhocks...

This house of happiness is currently being renovated to become a space dedicated to the artist, an impressionist painter but also a mother, wife and friend. This interpretation centre should open in september 2024.
