Théâtre Montansier - Richard III
The original title of Richard III is : The Tragedy of King Richard III, containing his treacherous plots against his brother Clarence; the wretched murder of his innocent nephews; with the whole course of his hated life and his most deserved death.
« Shakespeare takes care here, right from the subtitle, to inform us of his treachery, his hated life and his death: we are going to be dealing with a monster. Richard III fascinates me by Shakespeare's freedom of tone: it is an early play with a rich, sharp and effective style. This Richard III is an extension and an echo of our work on Elizabethan theatre, begun in 2005 with the creation of Richard II (at the Montansier in 2015 and in 2018). The exploration of this powerful work will allow us to continue to work on the Shakespearean and baroque mechanisms of the fêtes macabres and will bring together the entire team of the Eudaimonia company, from 18 to 22 people. To tell this story, each character is essential and, in contact with Richard, they become monsters who evolve in a decadent world. » Guillaume Séverac-Schmitz
