Opéra Royal - Du Mont: GRANDES MOTETS POUR LA CHAPELLE DE LOUIS XIV
A major figure in French musical heritage, Henry Du Mont has been at the heart of the work carried out over the past thirty years by the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles (CMBV), which is about to complete the full edition of his work.
To mark this achievement, Les Pages and Les Chantres du CMBV are joining forces with the ensemble Les Folies Françoises to perform some previously unpublished grand motets. Composed between 1666 and 1678 and published in 1686 by royal decree, they reflect the composer's stylistic evolution, the heyday of the first great Louis XIV motet and the aesthetic of power at its zenith, at a time when the court moved to Versailles (1682) and music became an instrument of artistic, spiritual and political influence.
This musical journey, carried by the excellence of the Constellation Choir and Orchestra under the inspired direction of John Eliot Gardiner, highlights the theological and artistic inspiration that runs through more than a century of German sacred music.
