With such a great line-up, we didn't dare put on a bad show.

We could have written a lot of things, sketched out clichéd phrases and praised his writing.
We could have said ‘grandson of farmers’, ‘first loves’, ‘unknown father’, or ‘sideways glances in urinals’.
We could have.
We could have said ‘honesty, transparency, truth’, but it sounded a bit harsh.
