Theater Montansier

Inaugurated in 1777 in the presence of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, this theater with its lovely blue and gold auditorium is one of the oldest preserved in France.

Built by J.-F. Heurtier, it may be considered Versailles' first theater, where, until then, there was only an uncomfortable auditorium on the rue Royale. This initiative came about thanks to Marguerite Brunet, known as la Montansier, who headed a theatre business holding privileges in all of western France and everywhere the court resided. The Versailles building’s success as a theater lasted until 1789.

The building was purchased by the city in 1834: it has since become the municipal theater, which was notably directed in the Twentieth Century by Marcelle Tassencourt and Francis Perrin.

Additional information about reception :Le bar du Théâtre Montansier, situé au 1er étage, est ouvert à 19h45 tous les soirs de représentations et après les spectacles à l’occasion des rencontres et dédicaces. Soupes, petits plats chauds et douceurs sucrées, boissons diverses à petits prix vous y attendent dans le magnifique cadre du Foyer. Après toutes les représentations jeune public des mercredis et dimanches à 15h, goûter avec les artistes. Madeleines, jus de fruits et petites gourmandises à 1€ !

Salle de spectacle : La salle à l’italienne en forme de fer à cheval du Théâtre Montansier se distingue par son bleu dit Montansier. Le plafond de Charles Séchan, les cariatides des loges d’avant-scène aux fronts ceints de couronne, le velours bleu des fauteuils et le beau lustre lui confèrent un charme unique. Cette salle est dotée d’une excellente acoustique. Maximum capacity : 1 person

Le Foyer : Le Foyer du Théâtre au premier étage était traditionnellement le lieu où les spectateurs pouvaient se réchauffer au moment de l’entracte. Il offre aujourd’hui avec ses grands miroirs se répondant à l’infini un bel espace de réception pour un cocktail, une conférence de presse ou une réunion. Dans le cadre de la location du Foyer, des espaces complémentaires (le Fumoir et la Bibliothèque) peuvent être ajoutés. Maximum capacity : 1 person
